Synopsis

"Deface the Nation" MARK GRUENWALD (W) • PAUL NEARY (A&C)The premiere of yet another daringly different new foe for the star-sprangled Avenger. He calls himself FLAG-SMASHER, and his very mission dictates that Captain America become his greatest enemy!SynopsisThe issue begins with the United Nations being vandalized by a mysterious figure on a flying vehicle. Meanwhile, Cap gets a check for all his years in the service worth almost a million dollars. Cap feels like he didn't earn this money and decides that the only honest thing to do with it is use it to open up a direct hotline between him and the people. Cap gets everything he needs together and sets up a press conference to announce his new hotline. The mysterious villain from before decides to crash this event. He reveals himself as the Flag-Smasher and explains his ideals to Cap and the people. He uses the people as leverage to get to Cap, but a distraction gives Cap a means to defeat his opponent. Cap reflects on what happened and decides he can no longer hold public events like this.
